Been So Long...

Lot's has happened since our last post. Music related, some, life related, a lot. The blog's approaching it's 4th year in existence believe it or not and it feels like progression has been made since the first post, but not enough in my opinion. While sparring the blog of frivolous details as to why, the only thing to do is continue on with the movement. Since the first day the passion turned into a potential way to make a living, it was told to me that the game is a sprint and not a marathon (This goes for anything being pursued in life). Therefore, in the immortal words of a great philosopher that was given the title of The Most Interesting Man in the World, "STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS", and I'll continue to do the same.

Chris Blake, HAPPY NEW YEAR

"It Get Greater Later"

YouTube Video

While in TX on New Year's Eve ran into this homeless guy selling flowers at one of my favorite places, you guess, and after kickin' shit with him for a sec decided to record him cause he seemed so happy despit his situation. Toward the end of the video he had these words of wisdom to share. Excuse the quality, shot it with my iPhone!

This marks the beginning of "The Chris Blake Chronicles"

Mass Appeal by chrisblake

I dropped this on 3/9/10 because I remember like yesterday when "Mass Appeal" was always #1 on Rap City back when it first dropped. Then came news of Guru's illness which made it all the more worth doing. Now, since the news of news of his passing, I had to repost. Though it's not a tribute, I hope I did it justice.

EVERYBODY LOVES CHRIS: SEASON 1 MIXTAPE DROPS ON 3/30/10!!!

Official Bio

Hip-hop artist, writer, and entrepreneur, Chris Blake is a musical visionary. His confident flow and witty lyrics are reflections of his humorous personality, outlandish demeanor, and symbolisms of life in his world.

Born and raised in Memphis, TN, a city known for its rich musical history, it was shown early in Chris Blake’s life that music would be of high relevance to him. Spitting his first rhymes at the age of five, Chris Blake would be frequently commissioned to freestyle in front of his older siblings and their friends who were twice his age. Life as well as his subject matter was “normal” back then until his father became absent, leaving his mom to take care of him and his three brothers.

With his mom working most of the time and his three older brothers consumed in an environment that lead to constant jail bids among other things, Chris Blake spent most of his young life alone. Raised by television, his imagination became bigger than his reality taking him out of the less than perfect world he knew.

Music television in the early 90s was dominated by East Coast rap, which influenced Chris Blake’s own rap style. However, the first rap album Chris Blake ever purchased was Outkast’s Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik It was then in 1994, he saw what the South had to offer. Other rappers such as Spice 1, Eightball & MJG, and Goodie Mob also became great influences in his own music.

Through his contagiously unique vocals and subject matter based on his life experiences, some good and some bad, Chris Blake’s music blends tragedy with comedy and a touch of flyness to ease the ups and downs of life. As an independent artist, Chris Blake’s authentic lyrics, various mixtapes, and internet presence has defined him in a crowded industry and has gained him fans from East Memphis to Ethiopia.

Being inspired by his daily life occurrences and driven by success, Chris Blake is passionate about going all out for what he believes in, his music.

Where Are You Bleezy????

I look forward to this annual issue from XXL almost more than the Power 30 issue The Source puts out. First of all, you get to see the newest mainstream hopefuls who more than likely have been doing their thing underground for a few years or more, see Currensy. Secondly, you check for the rappers you haven't been hip to, to see what makes them stand out among the millions that are aiming for their spot. Whether you become a fan or not is up to you, but if you're like me, a music fiend that is, you want to know what is fresh in this game full of spoils.

Lastly, given six months to a year, we see who is going to last in this game we call "THE INDUSTRY". The title of the article alone, The Freshmen 10: Hip Hop Class of 09, puts major pressure on the legacy of an MC similar to that of sports stars, mainly basketball, where you're harshly judged for your first year in the big leagues based on all the hype about you prior to your arrival. After the large sum of marketing dollars are put to use and you're now introduced to a broader audience as opposed to the few that have followed you throughout your career, are you going to impress the people enough to make them get behind you? I wish these guys much sucess as I attempt to grace this cover one day myself: CHECK MY CAMPAIGN
